Herbert Feinstein
A Celebration of Life
Herbert Feinstein obituary
Herbert Feinstein (n. Aaronoff), 94, of Pompton Plains, New Jersey, passed away on December 14, 2023 having lived, what he called, a “charmed life”. A family man with a friendly smile, a skip in his step, and an abundance of common sense, he often quipped “it's terrible…ley good”.
Herb was born on August 31, 1929 in The Bronx, New York. He was adopted by Benjamin and Yetta Feinstein on March 20, 1951. After graduating Alexander Hamilton Vocational High School in 1948, he went on to become an Electrician.
During the Korean War, Herb served in the Navy traveling on the USS Wisconsin to many ports (Guantanamo Bay, Edinburgh, Cuba, Panama, Pearl Harbor, Yokosuka, Guam, Greenland, Newfoundland, St. Johns, Labrador, Oslo) as Electrician’s Mate from 1950 to 1954 . Recognizing his athleticism, the Navy sent him to play softball for their team when the ship was in dry dock.
While serving, Herb married his sweetheart Bertha (n. Persky) in 1952. They recently celebrated their 71st anniversary on October 26. Together, they started a family in Brooklyn, New York and moved to Parsippany, New Jersey in 1968.
The Rescue Squad was an important part of Herb's daily life in Parsippany. He was a certified rescue SCUBA diver and volunteered with the squad in many roles over 30 years. After retiring from a 40 plus year career as an electrician, Herb took up tap dancing and enjoyed traveling across the United States with Bertha, as well as spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Herb was predeceased by his brother Fred Feinstein and his daughter in law Kathy Feinstein. He is survived by his wife Bertha, and their three children Steve Feinstein, Faye Kalmbach, and Jeff Feinstein; their spouses Arnold Kalmbach and Monica Marchaterre; grandchildren Bethany Walker, Hillary Romero, Ilan Kalmwood, Arnold Kalmbach, Madeline Feinstein and Robert Feinstein; and, great grandchildren Elia Romero, Roth Romero, and Lennox Walker.
